If you have recently visited Uppingham then no doubt you will have been blown away by the impressive new Western Quad development. Situated in the area of the school by the Leicester, where the old Sports Centre was built in the early 1970s. This was a huge fundraising campaign which lead to circa £20 million being raised and it would only have been possible with the fantastic support of the Uppingham community. We are proud to have received the 'Fundraising Initiative of the Year' at the TES Independent School Awards 2015 for this project.
A fantastic new Sports Centre was opened by Lord Coe in March 2011. This was followed by the development of a new Science Centre, positioned on the site of the old Sports Centre. Parents and pupils were shown the first glimpses of this superb new learning environment on Speech Day in May 2014 and the facility opened fully at the start of the academic year in September 2014. An official opening took place on 22nd November 2014 with Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys, the pioneering geneticist who developed techniques for DNA fingerprinting, carrying out the ceremony. We were also thrilled that the Science Centre gained architectural recognition by taking home the Stirling Prize at the RIBA National Awards 2015.

The Leonardo Arts Centre was similarly transformed to incorporate it into the scheme with a visually striking extension. This included a new entrance opening onto the quad and the creation of the Warwick Metcalfe Gallery, the introduction of a Fashion and Textile Department and the Mario Testino photography studio. Adjacent to the Leonardo is a beautifully landscaped outdoor amphitheatre and armillary sundial to represent the coming together of the arts and sciences.

We are extremely grateful for all the support we received from OUs, parents and friends who helped us turn the Western Quad vision into a reality.
